- Stability and instability in the repair of a broken chromosome
- Abstract
- The ability to synchronously induce a defined double-strand break (DSB) in budding yeast has made it possible to follow the kinetics of repair by homologous recombination in real time and to identify the roles of many recombination and replication proteins. Repair by gene conversion or by break-induced replication is efficient, but is surprisingly error-prone compared to replication of the same sequences. New insights into repair mechanisms will be discussed.
