In the Graduate Major in Global Engineering for Development, Environment and Society, related courses are grouped into categories to provide systematic, specialized learning according to students' level of learning and attainment.

    The curriculum is structured to build on the fundamental knowledge of transdisciplinary science and engineering gained in the Undergraduate Program. Students acquire abilities and knowledge required of global scientists and engineers to deal with various problems related to the environment, development, and global society in building a sustainable international community. Students can design their learning process by selecting and taking courses from four elective course groups in addition to a newly established applied PBL(Project-Based Learning) course, 'Project Design and Management,' which is compulsory. Elective course groups include Global Environment Systems, Social Environment Policies, International Development and Co-Creation, and Resources and Product Manufacturing. The curriculum allows students to acquire management skills required of globally successful scientists and engineers and also the ability to create in cooperation with others from diverse backgrounds by blending a variety of academic fields.

    • Global Environment Systems
      Systematic learning of the solutions to global environmental problems, through numerical simulations based on engineering, field observation methods, etc.
    • Social Environment Policies
      A study of the reciprocal relationship between society and environment to achieve sustainability, from the standpoints of environmental assessments, public participation, etc.
    • International Development and Co-Creation
      A study of the ideal development required by the global society from the standpoints of economics, education, sociology, and communications in addition to engineering.
    • Resources and Product Manufacturing
      A study of the issues surrounding resources, energy, and technology from the standpoints of recycling, utilization of local resources, application of cutting-edge technology, etc.

    600-Level Courses

    Building on the broad specialized academic ability of the Graduate Major in Global Engineering for Development, Environment and Society and the ability to view global problems from a higher perspective — acquired during or before the Master's Program — the following abilities are cultivated: (1) academic ability and practical skills to independently unearth and carry out research related to real-world problems; (2) deep comprehension of the structure of the research subject and its interaction with society from both macro and micro perspectives; (3) to propose and carry out co-created strategies for solutions to problems based on deep specialized knowledge. For that purpose, this education program is designed to assure in-depth expertise for students, and allow them to make a flexible study plan. The program consists of Research Seminars in which students cultivate advanced research capabilities, Research-Related Courses in which students develop practical teaching skills and management skills for co-creative proposals that are required of individuals playing a central role in future research and education, and Career Development Courses and Humanities and Social Science Courses in which students cultivate the ability to co-create with others from various backgrounds.

      Techniques for hands-on instruction and managing co-creative proposals required of individuals playing a central role in future research and educational activities.
