The Fellow is awarded to the members who is regarded to highly contribute to the IEICE through the advanced researches, educational aspect to the young aged people, and activities in the IEICE. The title of the Fellow awarded to Prof. Uenohara is "Advanced Research on Photonic Devices and Their System Application of Optical Signal Processing." The key technology is to realize high-speed and low-latency signal processing using the physical phenomena of semiconductor devices related to photonics and contribute to the realization of a high-capacity optical fiber communication society.

They are listed as follows in more detail;
  1. - Electron barrier effect with peoriodic structure of 100-angstrom-thick ultrathin layers
  2. - Achieving Indium Phosphide-related optical bistable lasers for use of semiconductor saturable absorbers, and realizing set and reset operation with all-optical injection
  3. - All-optical wavelength conversion technology applicable to packet switching systems
  4. - Optical digital-to-analog, serial-to-parallel conversion by using Indium Phosphide-based and Silicon-based waveguide integrated structure, and their application to optical switching operation

As for activities in the IEICE, Prof. Uenohara was a Chair of Optoelectronics Study Group in 2015, and President of Electronics Society in 2017. He focused on the belief that the value and source of academic activities were discussions and information exchange among R & D personnel, and worked on enhancing a smooth environment.
