In this talk, I will focus on the handle slide operation and its application to delta-matroids. This operation, which draws inspiration from the classification of surfaces, is crucial for proving the universality property of the ribbon graph polynomial. I will begin with the handle slide operation and show its importance in the proof of the ribbon graph polynomial. The session will progress to demonstrate how the handle slide operation applies to delta-matroids. To conclude, I will present a simple example that illustrates the transformation of a binary delta-matroid into a canonical delta-matroid through a sequence of handle slides.
