Life Science and Technology News
We are trying to establish new academic field between Biological Science and Computer Science from a viewpoint of Systems Science. There are several different directions to combine them together.
If we solve a Biological problem by means of Computer Science, that would be called Bioinformatics. If we inspire an algorithm from Biological phenomena, that is Artificial Intelligence in a wide sense such as Neural Networks, Evolutionary Computation, Artificial Life, and so on. If we build an intelligent machine with Biological devices, that becomes DNA Computing or Molecular Robotics.
Some of them are growing dramatically and others are still in the stage of early trial and errors. We'd like to balance all directions with various progress. It might be somewhat from oriental thought, but we believe it's important to achieve healthy development of academic fields.
