Ying Chen (Ph.D. student in the Inoue Lab), Ziwei Xu (special researcher in the Ichise Lab), Professor Kotaro Inoue, and Professor Ryutaro Ichise jointly presented their research, which won the Best Poster Award at the 23rd International Conference on Machine Learning and Applications (IEEE, Miami, Florida, USA) in December 2024.

In this research, they proposed an expertise-driven model (ETE-FinCa) based on causal knowledge graph. This model addresses the challenge of counterfactuals in causal inference by identifying high-quality instrumental variables (IVs).

At the conference, the significance and innovation of this research in the domain of AI causal inference, as well as its detailed analysis of empirical data, attracted significant attention from the audience. The judges highly praised this work, describing it as "a practical approach to causal inference that introduces new perspectives," leading to the award.
