Please tell us about your current job (responsibilities, challenges, rewards, etc.).
As a university faculty member, providing students with a strong education and carrying out research are my primary duties. I am currently in charge of mathematics, experiments, game theory, as well as some seminars for small groups. To pass on the joys of game theory and promote the engagement of students, I set up a simulation corner with a variety of games in the lecture, and let students participate actively and explain the results with game-theoretic models afterwards. Regarding research, I am involved in a project to perform profit analysis of Sino-Japan cooperation in air quality improvement, with utilization of multi-criteria allocation games. I am also interested in proving the existence of stationary Markov equilibria in discounted stochastic games.
How is the knowledge and experience gained at Tokyo Tech being utilized in your current position?
How is the knowledge and experience gained at Tokyo Tech being utilized in your current position?
I was at Tokyo Tech from 2009 to 2014. Six years ago, I barely spoke any Japanese, but now I am giving lectures in Japanese! At the beginning of my Tokyo Tech days, there were very few long-term international students in my department, and I struggled a lot due to language barriers and cultural differences. Thanks to the kindness of professors re-explaining the lecture contents in English, and the help from my wonderful lab mates, I enjoyed a productive and impressive graduate life in Tokyo Tech. Aware of the importance of language learning in this globalized era, I try to cultivate my students' skills to read in English or Chinese at the end of the seminar.
What are your future goals?
In China, we have the saying"Good teacher, helpful friend." As a faculty member, that is what I intend to be, both a mentor and friend to my students. I also want to create a positive and free lab atmosphere for them. As a researcher involved in intellectual creation, my aim is to provide useful findings for society by constantly broadening my vision and refining the knowledge in my specialized field.
Please write a message to students aiming for Tokyo Tech.
In the globalized era, more and more companies value foreign language skills as a positive extra in applications. Tokyo Tech is an amazing melting pot of students from around the world, and provides you with an opportunity to meet and interact with people from a variety of cultures. Join us, and I assure you that exciting and stimulating discoveries are waiting for you.
