5 Features

Extended opportunities for learning,
exploring, connecting, practice,
and success

  1. 1

    Multi-layered and Systematic Learning
    in Humanities, Society,
    and Science and Engineering

Multi-layered and Systematic Learning in Humanities, Society, and Science and Engineering

Acquire broad knowledge in humanities, social sciences, and science and engineering as well as advanced expertise in fields such as politics, law, and public administration; education, welfare, and health; culture and art; science, technology and society; and cognition, mathematics, and information. Multi-layered and systematic learning is realized through research seminars, common project dialogue dispatch courses and analysis integration courses, across each field. Each field is handled by a team consisting of experienced and accomplished teaching staff, and covers basic study, advanced research, and applied practice.

  2. 2

    Acquiring the Bridging Ability
    to Connect People and Society
    with Science and Technology

Acquiring the Bridging Ability to Connect People and Society with Science and Technology

There are three elements to "bridging ability: an insight to grasp the essence of a problem based on an understanding of the characteristics and interactions between people, society, and science and technology; an ability to reflect that does not overestimate people, society, or science and technology; and an ability to transfer the significance and problems of new science and technology, along with solutions to people and society, and to explain interests and concerns held by them to scientists and engineers. These qualities will be acquired through the common project dialogue dispatch course, the analysis integration course, the relationship-building course, and the training support career course.

  3. 3

    Interaction and Exchange Beyond
    Borders and Barriers

Interaction and Exchange Beyond Borders and Barriers

Interdependent relationship-building ability, the ability to initiate dialogues among multiple fields and multiple cultures, and an understanding of various values and world views are essential for leaders who are successful across borders and barriers. The relationship-building course, the common project dialogue dispatch course, and the training support career course provide students with a wider perspective.

  4. 4

    Independently Forming Advanced Evaluation Criteria
    and Manifesting Vision

Independently Forming Advanced Evaluation Criteria and Manifesting Vision

We define "value creation ability" as the "ability to independently form advanced evaluation criteria and manifest vision". This is a desired ability of leaders who will open a new future for humans, society, and science and technology, and it is linked to specialized academic research ability. These leaders need not only wide and deep knowledge, they must have sensitivity, flexibility, and positivity. The value creation ability acquired in the Graduate Major in Social and Human Sciences can be used to realize the further development of people and society through science and technology.

  5. 5

Pushing Forward and Creatively Designing Necessary Mechanisms
    and Processes

Pushing Forward and Creatively Designing Necessary Mechanisms and Processes

The ability to push forward and creatively design the necessary mechanisms and processes is required for solving problems. This problem-solving ability requires the ability to apply expertise in addition to wide and deep knowledge and various advanced skills, and must be based on a high ethical perspective and a sense of responsibility. The Department of Social and Human Science will equip you with the problem-solving ability to succeed as a leader who contributes to the resolution of problems caused by science and technology for people and society.
