architectural design and engineering

  1. 1

    Expertise Covering People, Society,
    Environments, and Nature

Expertise Covering People, Society, Environments, and Nature

Faculty in each specialized area are also active in the field as architects, engineers, and researchers. Graduate students not only attend lectures but also join a laboratory and receive guidance from faculty and senior students. What one can accomplish alone is limited. In research laboratories, students gain not only expertise but also teamwork and planning skills that are essential in architecture.

    Design and Research Education
    with a Focus on Practicality

Design and Research Education with a Focus on Practicality

Education at Tokyo Tech is not only about theory but is also directly connected to providing innovation. Many of our faculty are active in the field, providing design expertise as architects and engineers, developing new technologies in collaboration with industry, and working with government to improve infrastructure. Research findings grounded in practical science are utilized in architectural design and development. This enables students to engage in research while also experiencing new trends in design.

  3. 3

    Practical Skills Gained through
    International Exchange

Practical Skills Gained through International Exchange

Many of our graduate students participate in study abroad programs with other renowned universities in architecture. Likewise, many students from the world's top level universities come to study at Tokyo Tech. We also regularly hold workshops with overseas universities. Through interactions with others in their field, students can improve their communication skills and be exposed to cutting-edge design trends. Working alongside one another, students form international networks that will last for the next 20 to 30 years and beyond.

  4. 4

    Cutting-Edge Research
    Environment

    Cutting-Edge Research Environment

We take pride in the environment and facilities we provide to fully support research. In our common design and drafting room, students can engage in various innovative activities. At our cutting-edge experiment factory, students can experiment on full-scale structures and materials that they themselves created, allowing them to identify structural behaviors which cannot be found solely through analysis. Each student is provided research space with which they can access rich databases and applications for their design and research activities.

  5. 5

    Research Directly Linked with Industry
    and Public Institutions

Research Directly Linked with Industry and Public Institutions

Our alumni organization Toukakai, has over 100 years of history, and its members are renowned figures in architecture, both past and present. Our present alumni are top players in Japan's architecture industry. Through contact with alumni and their research activities, students are exposed to the latest trends in architecture and receive an ideal introduction to the field. The reputation and professional networks formed by graduates of the Department of Architecture and Building Engineering become lifelong treasures.
